It is just a picture. Just a moment, captured in time. It wasn’t even particularly flattering. I was cold – freezing cold – and I wasn’t wearing any makeup. It was taken with a point and shoot. But the picture is my favorite, because it is a moment between my daughter and me, and we are laughing.
Children become adults before we, as parents, have time to capture all of the preciousness as it happens. It’s too fleeting, and it is so important to have images to hold on to. Little, tangible reminders of those moments that pass us by.
A few months ago we took a couple of days to shoot family portraits for the women and children who are a part of the community at the Mary Hall Freedom House. Because these women? These strong, independent mothers, working against all odds to keep their families together and safe? They deserve to have their moments captured – perhaps more than anyone.
Mary Hall Freedom House is run by the generosity of others; people who give their time, resources, thought and money so that these beautiful families can have a chance at a fresh start. They are always in search of volunteers and donations, and trust me when I say that you will be so blessed by being a part of these womens’ lives.
