Peachy Keen: The Summer Bucket List Challenge

You know those people who don’t believe in small talk? You’re expecting to ease into a conversation with chatter about where you live and the weather forcast, and they’re all like: “Hi, nice to meet you, tell me about what you are doing to make the World a better place.” That’s Jenny Solar. I met her on night one of the What If Conference in February; we bonded over a mutual affinity for red wine and dancing, and she has been rocking my socks ever since.

The Solars are the beauty and brains behind The Happy Family Movement, a blog that will literally change your life. Or, I should say, it will change the way that you participate in your life. The Happy Family Movement is dedicated to the us part of a family. The togetherness. The intentionality. It’s rare and beautiful and there need to be more Solars in the World.

Each Summer The Happy Family Movemenet does a Summer Bucket List Challenge, which encourages families to make the most out of their break from school and plan on more togetherness. More us. We are so excited about creating our Summer Bucket List, and we will totally be sharing it in another blogpost, but for now I want you all to head over to their blog and sign up. This is sure to be your best, most adventurous Summer yet… and I bet you won’t hear the words “I’m bored” even once:)

Love this, except, Jenny is both the beauty and the brains, I was curious what I was to the HFM ;)

Just playing. Love you Scobeys so much! Stoked to see where your life takes you and to share in more life experiences together. Much love!

Love you Solars right back. A whole lot. We can’t wait to Bucket List it up this Summer!

Peachy Keen: Farmer D

It’s no secret that we here at Scobey central love our veggies, so when we had the opportunity to shoot last week for Farmer D Organics… well… we were pretty excited about it. I had the chance to meet Daron and his wife a couple of months ago at a benefit for The Piedmont Cancer Center, and their story just spoke to me (because, as much as I love veggies, I love love stories even more… so I just couldn’t be happier that a veggie-centric love story exists!!). We love Farmer D Organics and the passion with which they carry out their mission. If you haven’t checked them out yet, you can visit their online store here or their retail stores in Atlanta. Go, veggies!!

Married: Nathalie and Steve

There’s a reason that the sayings go “playing in the rain” or even “singing in the rain”… but not so much “let rain ruin your day”. Actually, there are a few reasons: 1) You shouldn’t worry about things that are out of your control 2) When life gives you lemons, you might as well make lemonade and 3) Rain is AWESOME, and it can be a whole lot of fun if you’re just willing to dance it in… or, in Nathalie and Steve’s case, snuggle and take a bunch of beautiful pictures in it. So. Much. Fun.

Nathalie and Steve – You guys are wonderful! We had such a blast being a part of your Wedding Day (and playing in the rain). Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for inviting us to be a part of it. So Much Love – G+A

Art to Aid

If you’re a person who gets sick of me talking about how proud I am of my husband… well, this post might be a good one for you to skip.

Of all of the things that I love about Graham, here are two of the biggest: he isn’t afraid to dream, and he has a heart for other people.

I remember the first time he came to me with this idea. And I remember all of the reasons I had for why now just wasn’t a good time. I remember sitting in a conference room in The Dominican Republic with all our fears written down on a piece of paper, and then ripping that paper up and throwing all of our fears away because now is never a good time, but it’s the only time we have.

And since then I have watched this dream of his grow and form and take real, tangible shape, and I am the proudest person in the stratosphere getting to share the launch with you today.

Art to Aid is an online marketplace that empowers people to do good through the act of creating. Consumers have a growing desire to buy from vendors that have a positive social impact, and right now that requires them to do a lot of research to find companies and vendors who are focusing on making a difference. Art to Aid will connect consumers to creatives and allow them to rally around mutually inspiring causes, enabling them to do good and to change the world around them by buying creative goods.

I would love for you to take some time today and hop over to their site. Watch their video. Sign up for updates. Share this project with your friends. Send good vibes. Believe in each others’ crazy ideas.

Your support of this dream means the World to us.

What’s in Our Bag? 35mm

Oh. My. Goodness, y’all. Is everyone in Georgia equally ready to see this rain head out on it’s merry way?! Yes?? Ok. Good. Then I won’t spend any more time complaining about it. I’ll just say that we are debating building an ark right now. Animals, two by two. Gopher wood. All that jazz.

Today we are posting about another lens that we use a lot when we shoot: the 35mm 2.0. Another small and cheap item. My love affair with this lens is still in the honeymoon stage. In fact, up until the Fall of last year, the only place we used the 35mm was in our photobooth setup. But ohhhh the winds are changing. The 35 is quickly becoming one of my favorite lenses. The more comfortable I get with really getting all up in the Wedding-Day action (especially during prep and reception) the more I am loving the look of this lens. The focal length gives me everything that I love about a wide angle lens (more goodness in your frame) without the things that I hate (making people have weird-looking alien-chins… aka distortion). It’s a prime lens, which I talked about a little bit here, but let me reiterate: I love that primes make ya move. Literally. When I don’t have the ability to turn a ring and zoom, I have to move my feet – which often results in a change in perspective that yields a WAY cooler shot than I would have gotten with Ye Olde Ring of Lazy.

This season has given me such warm fuzzies about this lens that I have added the 35mm 1.4 to my gear wishlist. Those of you who have the 35 1.4, I would love to know what you think about it!

Christy Tyler - May 6, 2013 - 10:04 am

That shot of the parents with the bride!!!! Looooove! And I’m the same way… The 50mm is my baby but the 35mm 1.4 comes out of my bag more and more lately! I love the perspective it gives and all the storytelling you can fit in one frame! :) get it! :)

Leon - May 6, 2013 - 10:18 am

I might have to consider using a Nikon lens for my 7D on my next wedding. Those images are incredible sharp! Amazing. I used the 35 1.4 on this wedding. Everything up to the reception is 35 and the rest is a mix. http://www.leonbailey.me/portfolio/holiday-inn-walt-disney-world-resort-wedding
